Role of Nanotechnology in Remediating Polluted Soil
Author : Mohankumar K T, Hithashree D M, T G S Reddy and Abhishek Das
The polluted soils are unsuitable for the plant’s existence and there are several methods to reclaim them and application of nanoparticles is the emerging concept. Due to higher surface area and catalytic activity, the nanoparticles out rate many of the reclaiming methods. The nano-particles reclaim the polluted soils mainly through three mechanisms i.e., adsorption, transformation and photocatalytic activities. However, detailed assessment of potential environmental risks of nanoparticles usage is required in order to fully understand their effect on the soil, plant, human and animal.
