Climate-Smart Agriculture (CSA): Securing Food and Natural Resources for the Future

Author : Deepali Upadhyay and Ashutosh K. Srivastava

ABSTRACT

Climate change presents a formidable challenge to global food security, highlighting the pressing need for the adoption of Climate-Smart Agriculture (CSA). CSA integrates three core pillars: ensuring food security, fostering adaptation, and promoting mitigation, all aimed at advancing sustainable agricultural practices. Sustainable intensification is pivotal in achieving a balance between food production and environmental conservation. Adaptation strategies, such as crop diversification and enhanced water management, are essential for building resilience. Similarly, mitigation efforts, including agroforestry, focus on reducing greenhouse gas emissions. Despite its potential, the widespread uptake of CSA encounters various challenges. Overcoming these hurdles necessitates collaborative efforts from policymakers and stakeholders alike. Nonetheless, CSA offers a comprehensive approach to addressing food security challenges by integrating climate adaptation strategies with sustainable agricultural practices, all while ensuring environmental responsibility and stewardship in the face of climate.
