ABSTRACT
Vermicompost is, an important organic fertilizer having a diversity of microbial communities, improves the production of field crops, vegetables, flowers, and fruit crops. Earthworms transform organic waste into finely degraded peat-like material in vermicomposting. This process produces vermicompost with more nutrients (0.40-0.66% N, 1.16-1.93% P, 0.26-0.42% K, micronutrients, and beneficial soil bacteria) than organic compost and manures. Another important product of vermicomposting is vermiwash, the liquid collected as water passes through a worm column. Vermiwash contains enzymes, plant growth hormones, vitamins, and other micro and macro nutrients that provide disease resistance, stress tolerance, and improve crop growth and productvity. Vermiculture uses earthworms to generate organic materials for the best organic manure while lowering pollution and health threats. It also detoxifies soil by eliminating copper and lead. Vermicomposting is the greatest technique to solve soil fertility, pollution, soil degradation, and food production using artificial fertilizers or manure.
