Transgenic approach: A Novel Technique for Enhancing Nutritional Traits in Plants

ABSTRACT
Plants are the main source of nutrition in the human diet, as is well known. However, several vital vitamins and minerals are missing from all of our major food crops. Despite the fact that a varied diet can provide sufficient nutrition, a large proportion of the world`s population, particularly in developing countries, depends on staple foods like rice and maize, which are deficient in all the essential nutrients. In most of the developing world, malnutrition is a serious problem for public health. Staple crops can be improved to include more vital nutrients as one approach to solving this issue. Biofortification is a viable and effective strategy to combat micronutrient deficiencies in staple foods, such as rice and corn, which are deficient in essential nutrients. This article focuses on the transgenic approach to biofortifying crops, which provides the quickest route to the development of high-nutrient commercial cultivars.
