ABSTRACT
Sea cucumbers have enormous potential in pharmaceutical, nutraceutical and cosmetics industry therefore culture of sea cucumbers is gaining popularity. However, intensive farming leads to the occurrence of various diseases and OIE likely warrant to notify the diseases of Holothuroidea in near future. Studies on the immune responses and immune molecules of sea cucumber will help to prevent, control and treat diseases. These echinoderms solely depend on innate immunity (humoral and cellular). Humoral factors such as lectins, antimicrobial peptides, complement factor, PRRs, and enzymes were reported. Cellular immunity in sea cucumbers is carried out by amoebocytes, sperulocyte cells, lymphocytes, vibratile cells and crystal cells.
