ABSTRACT
Coffee has gained significance in India because it is one of the most commercially essential agricultural goods in international trade and a monetary crop. It has greater adaptability and is grown in a wide range of climate conditions of Karnataka. Several diseases have a severe impact on coffee production, but the most serious is coffee leaf rust disease caused by the fungus Hemileia vastatrix. The major symptoms of coffee leaf rust are small, translucent yellow spots of 1 to 2 mm diameter on the upper surface of the leaves and as these spots gradually increase in diameter, masses of orange urediniospores appear on the undersurfaces. It causes 20-90% yield losses. As a outcome of this potential impact, there is need of better understanding unique colonization features at molecular level is essential.
