Tackling the Twin Challenges: Climate Change and Air Pollution
Author : Sunita Yadav and Sandeep Kumar
ABSTRACT
Climate change and air pollution are interlinked global issues that significantly impact human health, ecosystems, and the economy. Climate change, which is caused by the buildup of greenhouse gases in the atmosphere, is thought to be behind the rise in global temperatures, the increase in extreme weather, and the rise in sea levels. On the other hand, air pollution is caused by releasing harmful gases, particles, and chemicals into the atmosphere from various sources, including industrial activities, transportation, and energy production. The relationship between climate change and air pollution is complex, as the effects of climate change can exacerbate air pollution and vice versa. For example, as temperatures rise due to climate change, air pollution levels can increase, as higher temperatures can lead to the formation of ground-level ozone. Additionally, climate change can impact the levels and distribution of airborne allergens, such as pollen, which can exacerbate respiratory conditions like asthma.
