ABSTRACT
In vitro shoot tip grafting (STG) is a micrografting procedure performed under aseptic conditions to produce true to type, non-juvenile, disease free plants under in vitro conditions in several woody species like citrus, Prunus species and other pome fruits. This technique has been commercially exploited for cleaning the citrus varietal collections from major diseases caused by virus, viroids and greening bacteria. STG has several applications like disease free seedling production, cleaning plants from mixed pathogen infections, ease of plant introduction in new areas adopting quarantine procedures among others.
