ABSTRACT

Seaweed refers to gazillions of species of marine algae and plants. In many parts of the world, they are an integral part of human cuisine. Seaweeds have an immense positive impact on the mitigation of the global climate emergency. They produce more than half of the Earth’s oxygen through photosynthesis. They contribute positively to the health of the ocean ecosystem. Seaweed could play a pivotal role in sustainable agriculture production, production of biofuel, biofertilizers, etc. Integrating seaweed farming along with coastal aquaculture could be beneficial regarding better resource utilization and income opportunities for the local farming communities. In the Indian scenario, there are large unexplored prospects for seaweed farming.
