ABSTRACT

Rice being the staple food for half of the Indian population, ending up with huge quantities of straw at the time of harvest is inevitable. Because of its enormous volume and huge quantity, high transportation cost, farmers tend to burn the straw in open field to facilitate sowing of subsequent crop which causes hazardous gaseous emission and environmental pollution. To reap the benefits of nutrients in rice straw and to avoid environmental pollution, proper attention need to be given for efficient utilization of rice straw. This paper deals with various means of efficient straw management for income generation and sustainable environment.
