Author : Priya Saini

ABSTRACT

Soil is a critical resource that provides essential services for agricultural production, plant growth, biodiversity, carbon sequestration, animal habitation and environmental quality, which are very important for achieving the Nations` Sustainable Development Goals. The factors responsible for soil degradation are soil pollution, salinization, acidification and erosion. Sustainable agriculture is the way to increase productivity in agriculture and to improve economic prosperity by protecting all living things, spaces and natural resources. Therefore, research in the field of sustainable soil use and management should prioritize. However, time is required to improve these limited resources with increasing consumption demands. The Soil is a critical resource and its proper management can improve the quality of resource. It is a complex ecosystem, in which living microorganisms and plant roots bind mineral particles with organic matter to form a dynamic structure, that regulates water, air, and nutrients. In terms of sustainable agricultural, restoration of soil health is most important and it refers to the ability of the soil to sustain agricultural productivity and protect environmental resources. A healthy soil provides a lot of functions for supporting plant growth such as nutrient cycling, biological control of plant pests, and regulation of air and water supply.
