Cooperatives have a prominent role in the growth and development of rural India. They can act as the platform for technology dissemination by forging linkage with research institutes and creating an enabling environment by converging with various governmental and non-governmental organizations. Cooperatives can facilitate access to technologies in the fisheries sector by small-scale fishers and other stakeholders. Research institutes` role in the linkage mainly include conducting need- based research while cooperatives` role include providing feedback to research system in addition to facilitating technology dissemination. Strengthening the linkage between research institutes and cooperatives will add to the development of fisheries sector.
