Remedying micronutrient deficiencies for improving soybean productivity and quality

ABSTRACT
Micronutrients are the key factor hampering yield potential in soybean cultivated areas of India. Excess dependency on chemical fertilizers supplying major nutrients like N, P K and S only that too in an imbalanced proportion with micronutrient application almost totally ignored, leads to depletion of soil fertility. This resulted in widening the yield gaps in soybean which need to be improved. As a concern, soybean yields have been declining or remaining static over the last 2- decades; and there exists an ample scope for discovering the new options in enhancing the soybean yield potential in near future. Apart from deficiency of macro-nutrients, deficiency of micro-nutrients imposes serious limitations on soybean yield and quality. Thus, in this article, the importance of micro-nutrients, their easily recognizable deficiency symptoms, and potential technologies now available for correcting deficiencies of different micro-nutrients in soybean crop have been presented.
