ABSTRACT

Indoor air quality has become as an issue of great concern because it results to sick building syndrome, building related illness and multiple chemical sensitivity. Exposure to these pollutants is associated with numerous effects on human health, including increased respiratory symptoms, hospitalization for heart or lung diseases, and even premature death. Ultra-fine particles with a diameter in the range of 5.6-560 nm are common in indoor air, although the amount of particles of 10 or 2.5 µm or less in diameter (PM10 and PM2.5, respectively) are more frequently measured. Different methods of indoor air decontamination with advantages and limitations are discussed in this chapter.
