Phosphorus: An ultimate limiting soil nutrient

Phosphorus is an essential limiting soil nutrient generally deficient in bioavailable form. Therefore P has been applied in large amount to obtain maximum economic yield. However, there are evidence of P accumulation where P fertilizer in applied in excess of crop demand and its loss to water surface possessing risk to water sources. This article gives briefly discuss about the status of P in soil, its forms and dynamics in soil and approach to predict appropriate P fertilizer recommendation.
