Moringa for Sustainable Nutritional Security in India

Moringa (Moringa Oleifera) is a fast-growing, deciduous tree. It is also called a miracle tree due to the availability of rich source of certain important macro and micro nutrients. Moringa’s tiny leaves contains benefits of 7 times the Vitamin C of Oranges; 4 times the Vitamin A of Carrots; 4 times the Calcium of Milk; 3 times the Potassium of Bananas; 2 times the Protein of Yogurtand allthe essential amino acids. It is a rich repository of proteins, vitamins and minerals including potassium, calcium, phosphorous, iron, folic acid as well as beta carotene.Hence, to address the nutritional security, cultivation and promotion of Moringa consumption is one of the solutions to address the malnutrition and health related issues.So, promotion of policies and extension interventions towards rapid diffusion and adoption of Moringa cultivation and promotion of Moringa based food consumption in the nutritional insecurity regions can easily address the malnutrition related issues and ensure the sustainable nutritional security in India.
