ABSTRACT
In order to increase farm incomes and raise the standard of living of farm households, practicing secondary agriculture along with the primary was recommended by the Committee on Doubling Farmers Income of the Government of India. Secondary Agriculture aids in the generation of several employment opportunities in rural areas and also promotes rural entrepreneurship. The article explores the market potential of ‘type C’ secondary agriculture, which is related to the conversion of waste or crop residues to wealth, in the state of Bihar. An initial assessment suggests that the state of Bihar has residue worth Rs 162 billion only from fruits, vegetables, paddy, wheat, and pigeon. This shows that the circular economy through promotion of type C secondary agriculture can contribute extensively to economic growth by increasing incomes and generating employment.
