ABSTRACT

Horticultural crops, including fruit, vegetables are having rich sources of mineral, nutritional and important vitamins constitute important part in our daily diets. The burgeoning human populations, insufficient food, and lack of nutritious and healthy diets are major challenges in developing countries specially India. Revolution in molecular breeding, Markers Assisted selection, New sequencing NGS technology and precise DNA editing technology such as Clustered regularly interspaced short palindromic repeats (CRISPR)/CRISPR-associated protein 9 (Cas9), Zinc Finger Nucleases and Transcription Activator Like effectors Nucleases open a new way for effective bio-fortification in several horticultural crops for Nutritional security, combat hidden hunger and provide quality food for billion populations.
