Litchi Fruit Revolution: Unleashing the Power of Gamma Radiation for Post-Harvest Management

ABSTRACT

The global demand for fresh and high-quality fruits is on the rise, presenting a challenge for growers and suppliers to minimize post-harvest losses and extend the shelf life of fruits. Litchi fruit, with its delicate nature, requires effective preservation techniques. One promising method that has gained attraction in recent years is the use of gamma radiation. The permissible dose for food processing has been approved up to 10 kGy by the (Food and Agriculture Organization) FAO, (International Atomic Energy Agency) IAEA, and (World Health Organization) WHO joint expert committee because it has no harmful effects on nutrition. This article explores the application of gamma radiation in managing post-harvest losses in litchi fruit, highlighting its benefits and potential impact on the industry.
