Introducing Heeng cultivation to Indian farming

ABSTRACT
Asafoetida is a major condiment in Indian cuisines; its cultivation is possible in cold and dry climates of Himachal Pradesh and besides that it can grow in places such as Ladakh and parts of Uttarakhand. The herbaceous plant known as Heeng, or Ferula asafoetida, belongs to the Apiaceae (Umbelliferae) family. It only produces seeds once throughout its whole life cycle. This species is used to treat a range of illnesses and diseases in traditional medicine. Due to its efficiency and safety, as well as the substantial contribution it makes to therapeutic action and drug delivery systems, oleo-gum resin, which is extracted from the Ferula asafoetida L. plant, is widely utilised in the pharmaceutical and food industries.
