Internet of Things (IoT): Smarter Agriculture for a Smarter Future

Connected devices have penetrated every part of our lives with the rising acceptance of the Internet of Things (IoT), from health and fitness, home automation, automotive and logistics, to smart cities and industrial IoT. It is therefore plausible that IoT, connected devices and automation, should be applied in agriculture that can significantly enhance many aspects of farming practice. How could one still depend on animals and ploughs when self-driving vehicles and virtual reality are no longer a sci-fi fantasy but an everyday occurrence? In recent times, farming has undergone a number of technological changes, becoming more industrialized and technology-driven. Farmers have gained better control over the process of raising livestock and growing crops using various smart agricultural gadgets, making it more reliable and effective. In this article, we have explored the recent IoT innovations, their current penetration in the agricultural sector, its potential applications and challenges faced in disseminating IoT.
