ABSTRACT

Pre-harvest bagging is one of the most recent practices followed in the production of quality fruits in countries such as China, Japan, Australia, and other parts of the world. It is attempted for crops such as apple, pear, peach, grapes, etc. Pre-harvest bagging is a practice through which physical protection can be provided to the fruits sensitive to biotic and abiotic stresses. It provides an ideal microclimate that enhances the quality of fruits and reduces disease and pest incidence. Fruit bagging affects colour, size and weight, maturity, appearance and other physio-chemical attributes. Pre-harvest bagging can be one of the possible approaches to produce quality fruits. There is a lot of scopes to exploit the pre-harvest bagging technology in quality fruit production as it improves postharvest quality attributes without having any adverse influence on physical, biochemical and nutritional attributes of fruit.
