Green Fishing: A strategies to cope up the greenhouse gas emission and climate change

Author : Suman Nama and Sahina Akter

ABSTRACT

Over the 20th century, fossil fuels became the dominant energy input to most of the world`s fisheries. Mechanized and motorized fishing is dependent on non-renewable fossil fuels. The burning of fossil fuels increased the CO2 concentration in the atmosphere, contributed to the greenhouse effect, and released other pollutants harmful to the environment and human health. The greenhouse effect leads to an irreversible change in climatic and oceanographic processes. To overcome this problem, we need to promote green fishing growth using some less energy-intensive fishing methods such as purse seine instead of the bottom trawl. The fisheries` resources and bottom habitat do not get disturbed. The use of energy-efficient vessels incorporated with solar panels and the bulbous bow is a practical alternative to reducing carbon emissions.
