ABSTRACT
Subsurface drainage (SSD) technology is effective in controlling water logging and salinity. SSD technology reclaims waterlogged saline soil within 3-4 year period. In this manuscript we have discussed agricultural practices required after subsurface drainage installation to get success of SSD technology in terms of construction of field bunds, land leveling, salt leaching, removal of drainage effluent, selection of salt tolerant crop and varieties, improved irrigation practices and cultural management and periodical cleaning of surface drains. Effective operation of SSD technology and agricultural practices can enhance crop production up to 100 per cent within 2-3 years of its installation.
