ABSTRACT
Maximum residue limits (MRLs) or maximum permissible limits are the maximum residues of pesticides which is safe and authorized on a food commodity. These limits are commodity specific and also vary for raw and processed products. This limit prevents excessive use of pesticide and also regulates the usage in the food commodity. MRLs are to be fixed at the level low enough so that even high consumption of the commodity will not exceed the levels of acceptable daily intake (ADI) even if a person eats large quantities of that food. This article gives an insight onto how MRL is fixed and relevance of it.
