With the advancement in aquaculture industry, there are many species emerged that can be a promising candidate for aquaculture practices. Among such candidates, cockles are one of them. Cockles are small edible marine bivalves popular in Southeast Asian countries, particularly in Malaysia, Indonesia, and Thailand. They are locally known as Kerang in Thailand and Malaysia. Cockles attains sexually matured in its first year with a size range of 18-21 mm. In India, some fish farmers depend on the cockle fishery for their additional income. Cockle meat is sold as a value-added product in some countries like Colombia, the United Kingdom, and other Southeast Asian countries.
