Changes in Marine Life during the Cyclonic Storm
Author : P. Chellamanimegalai and Geetanjali Deshmukhe
ABSTRACT
A cyclone is a region of low pressure that is always accompanied by strong winds, violent wave action, and heavy rain. The impact of cyclones and their frequency is of greatest concern today due to rapidly changing climatic conditions. Many oceanographic changes can occur during cyclones that reduce the Sea Surface Temperature, dissolved oxygen, salinity and atmospheric pressure of the marine environment. At the same time, marine ecosystems experience water column mixing, sea level changes, wind-induced pollutant deposition, sustained precipitation, and landward runoff. Temporary fisheries potential is increased by rising of nutrient availability and primary productivity through water column mixing.
