ABSTRACT
Carbon farming is the process of changing agricultural practices or land use to increase the amount of carbon stored in the soil and vegetation (sequestration) and to reduce greenhouse gas emissions from livestock, soil or vegetation (avoidance). Carbon farming practices includes many of the common farming practices like organic farming, regenerative agriculture, permaculture, and other approaches to food production. Carbon farming allows farmers to earn carbon credits by storing carbon or lowering GHG emissions on their own property. These carbon credits can then be sold to the Government-nominated authority who wishes to decrease their emissions. To adopt the carbon farming initiatives by the farmers there is a demand of agro-environmental policies to incentivize farmers. Instability in carbon price, uncertainty regarding benefits from carbon farming, difficulty in monitoring the progress of such initiatives, uncertainty regarding carbon market selling practices, and the financial consequences of participation are the major barriers in adoption of Carbon farming by farmers.
