ABSTRACT

A biosensor is an analytical device which incorporates a biological sensing element integrated within a physicochemical transducer. The aim of a biosensor is to produce an electronic signal proportional to the specific interaction of analyst with the sensing element. This means that biosensors essentially transform bio-molecular interactions into a digital signal, thereby making detection of analysts label-free. Biosensors can be used for detection of analysts ranging from small molecules to intact pathogenic microorganisms. Biosensor detects chemical and biological compounds in a living environment with the help of a specific biological recognition element whose property changes upon binding of the compound.
