Actin Microfilament: A Novel Player in Plant Immunity
Author : Nishmitha. K
The actin cytoskeleton is a fundamental structural component of eukaryotic cells composed of cytoplasmic actin monomers and plays numerous roles in elementary cellular processes. In recent years role of cytoskeleton in immune signal transduction has been unfolded. Upon pathogen perception, rapid reorganization of actin filament is governed by set of actin-binding proteins (ABPs) that function in competitive and cooperative manners. Actin microfilament regulates reactive oxygen species (ROS) production and hypersensitive response. It is involved in the activation of plant immune signalling, including pathogen perception, amplification of numerous downstream signalling processes and transcriptional activation of resistance gene required for host resistance, but still, precise mechanism has not yet been elucidated.
