Non-traditional Models of Agricultural Education with special reference to Open Educational Resources

ABSTRACT

The agricultural sector in India is in need of a skilled workforce to tackle the complexities and challenges it faces. Traditional agricultural education institutions are struggling with manpower shortages and outdated delivery methods. As a result, non-traditional sources of education are gaining traction to provide targeted and flexible learning opportunities for different stakeholders in the agricultural sector. Open educational resources are an emerging alternative to traditional means of education.  The article will discuss several OER initiatives both in higher education and agriculture that are currently advancing India`s efforts to develop strong institutional mechanisms to address the country`s educational issues through a national strategic framework. It will also highlight both the advantages & constraints of the adoption of OER. The article concludes with a discussion of the implications of open educational practices which will enable India to further its national goal of providing quality higher education for all.
