ABSTRACT

Fisheries are highly dependent on high-cost protein sources such as a fish meal for attaining high protein retention and growth in fish, the complete replacement of which is unachievable. And the use of such costly feed ingredients in aquafeeds roots to higher operational costs in aquaculture. The alternative protein sources, for instance, plant or animal-based feed ingredients in aquafeeds, are being tested, which is unapproachable, as they resulted in lower protein retention efficiency by fishes. Researchers have given attention to increasing the protein retention efficiency in fishes in a cost-effective manner, which led to the development of several approaches. The application of such suitable strategies mentioned in this paper would be a valuable approach to overcoming the issue.
