Role of Pathogenesis Related (PR) Protein in Plant Defense
Author : Lopamudra Behera
Pathogenesis related proteins are group of diverse molecules that are induced by various phytopathogens including fungi, bacteria and viruses as well as defense related signalling molecules. They are the key components of plant innate immunity especially systemic acquired resistance (SAR). The earlier studies have demonstrated that PR genes provide enhanced resistance against several stresses, which really attracts the attention of most of the active researchers for using them against multiple stresses and that also makes them one of the most promising candidates for developing multiple stress tolerant crop varieties.
