Ricebean diversity in North eastern India

ABSTRACT                            

A large diversity of Ricebean exists in north-east India. Ricebean is a hardy crop and rich in protein with added nutritional advantage. It has the potential to emerge as an important crop. Understanding and utilizing the available genetic resources that may harbor useful genes for yield and biotic and abiotic stress tolerance is pertinent to improving ricebean. Further popularization of the crop will be a step forward in the research purview of Ricebean with emphasis to subside its undesirable traits and enhance useful characters through appropriate crop improvement programs.
