ABSTRACT

Climate change, Natural Resource Scarcity and Food Losses and Waste are the prime issues affecting our food systems. Suitable varieties that fit to the changing climate are to be worked to address food security issues in the coming decades. It is also true that globally we also need to curtail food losses and waste to address concerns of hunger and malnutrition. The projected picture due to the prime issue as above is certainly gloomy if right measures are not taken in time. Sustainable circular-bioeconomy models have the potential to address these grave concerns. The committee on Doubling Farmers’ Income recommended ‘Secondary Agriculture’ as a tool to enhance farmers’ income. ‘Secondary Agriculture’ has different avenues and one of those is around wastes and crop residue utilization, establishing circular economies. It also is a great way to restore nature in to the centre of the economy via sustainable circular bio-economy models.
