Author : Keshav Tiwari, Purva Asrani, Ansheef Ali
ABSTRACT
A healthy woman’s vaginal microbiota is normally inhabited by diverse group of both aerobic and anaerobic microorganisms. Among all groups, Lactobacilliare pretty dominant and common inhabitant of a healthy vaginal system. Their capacity to compete with other opportunistic pathogens by binding to the adhesion sites at the epithelial cells as well as through secretion of antimicrobial components, they often plays an important role in protecting the vaginal ecosystem from diseases of human concern. Upon infection induced by pathogenic microbes, antimicrobial treatment provides defence, however; recurrence of infection, drugs side-effect, and antimicrobial resistance poses a bigger threat than infection itself. In such cases, alternate drug therapies are of particular interest. In this article, we will mainly discuss about the probiotics as the natural source of Lactobacillus and their mechanisms in overcoming various diseases related to women reproductive health.
