Abstract
Pomegranate (Punica granatum L.) is a vital fruit crop in subtropical regions, experiencing substantial expansion in cultivation and production. However, fruit cracking poses a considerable challenge, leading to losses of 65%. This issue is widespread and influenced by improper irrigation, environmental conditions, and nutritional deficiencies. Addressing this problem requires a comprehensive approach, as no single factor can entirely control it. Understanding the relationship between fruit cracking and internal composition, the interplay of plant hormones, minerals and cell wall biosynthesis is crucial. This information will guide the development of approaches to ameliorate fruit cracking through the management of different cultural practices, applications of nutrients (CaCl2, MgSO4, KNO3) and hormones (GA3, CPPPU) that improve fruit texture to minimize economic losses in pomegranate cultivation.
