ABSTRACT
The scientific investigation of plant viruses originated in the 19th century, primarily emphasizing their ecological characteristics. The intensification of global trade and agricultural exchange has exacerbated pest and disease damage. Among the Gemini viruses, begomovirus, is a prominent genus economically impacting plants transmitted by whiteflies. Chemical control of these viruses has proven inadequate due to their wide host range and mobile vectors. Genetic resistance emerges as a dependable and environmentally friendly solution. Understanding virus-host interactions at the molecular level is crucial due to rapid virus evolution. Genomic approaches, such as QTL sequencing and RNA sequencing, hold promise for disease resistance breeding and practical application.
