ABSTRACT

Bud worm, Noorda moringae Tams acts as a borer and internal feeder whereas the Leaf caterpillar, Noorda blitealis Walker acts as a defoliator. Both pests are the most destructive pest that occurs on drumstick trees. These pests are found throughout the Moringa cultivated region, especially in South Indian regions of tropical climates. Moringa budworm can cause damage up to 78% whereas leaf caterpillar causes 100% in case of severe infestation. The incidence of both pests occurs throughout the year but the incidence of budworm is not seen in the month of December. Farmers frequently opt for synthetic pesticides or chemical methods because they provide rapid results and are cost-effective, often without considering environmental and health concerns. Researchers have a responsibility to share knowledge and raise awareness among farmers about the implementation of Integrated Pest Management (IPM) practices through a "lab to land" program. The main goal is to persuade farmers to embrace IPM strategies in order to achieve effective pest management in their fields.
