ABSTRACT

Honey bees (Apis mellifera) play a crucial role in pollination, making them indispensable for agriculture and ecosystem health. However, honey bee colonies face numerous challenges from various natural enemies. These adversaries including pests, pathogens and predators can significantly impact hive health, honey production and pollination services. The natural enemies of honey bees include the greater wax moth, lesser wax moth, wasps, hornets, wax beetles, mites, ants, birds and mammals. These pests can weaken honey bee colonies, leading to colony collapse and substantial economic losses to beekeepers and agricultural industries. Effective management techniques have been developed to combat these enemies and improve honey bee colony resilience. Beekeepers have employed Integrated Pest Management (IPM) approaches, involving regular monitoring, chemical treatments such as organic acids, essential oils, and acaricides to target specific pests.
