Author : Deepak, Abir Dey, Bijan Kumar Mondal, Debarup Das and MC Meena

ABSTRACT

Crop residues are aboveground plant parts left in the field after harvest. These residues contain organic matter, and nutrients, and have hollow structures that make them useful for agriculture. This article provides a comprehensive analysis of the composition, nutrient content, and biochemical composition of crop residues, and their impact on soil health. Depending on the biochemical composition of crop residues, their short-term or long-term application may affect various soil properties like pH, total porosity, aggregate stability, cation exchange capacity, contents of organic carbon, nitrogen, phosphorus, potassium, and micronutrients to different extents.

Keywords: Crop residue, Residue quality, PRQI index, C/N ratio, Soil health
