ABSTRACT

Amid the growing population, malnutrition and hidden hunger are the major concerns. To address global malnutrition and hidden hunger, there are four ways i.e., dietary diversity, food fortification, biofortification and supplementation. Among different approaches, biofortification is a sustainable and affordable method of providing nutrients. It is a multipronged strategy for producing nutritious and safe foods. Harvest Plus is functioning on development and promoting of biofortified novel varieties. There are three biofortification ways viz., agronomic, conventional and transgenic, involving the fertilizers application, breeding strategies and biotechnological tools, respectively. Development and utilization of biofortified crops assist to combat malnutrition and address nutritional security.
