Bangalore rose onion is a unique variety of short-day red onions grown exclusively in and around Bangalore, Karnataka. It has great bulb quality and nutrient content and is primarily used for pickling. Due to high foreign market demand and premium pricing throughout the year has become an important part of the farmer`s income, particularly for small and marginal farmers in its growing areas. Despite this, farmers have been unable to fully exploit its potential due to the inherent limitations associated with rose onion farming. As a result, there is an urgent need for collaborative research efforts to address these disadvantages and make rose onion farming a more profitable endeavor for its growers.
