Anthracnose Disease in Underutilized Fruits in India and its Management

ABSTRACT

Minor fruits are performing a crucial role in managing food and nutritional insecurity. It contains many important traits like nutritionally rich components, excellent resistance to biotic and abiotic stress, a rich source of nutraceuticals and medicinal properties, being precious for crop improvement, etc. Anthracnose disease is one of the major constraints on the production of fruits worldwide, especially in tropical and subtropical on the production of fruits worldwide. Anthracnose plant pathogens infect not only fruits but also other plant organs, including the leaves, flowers, twinges, and branches. However, infection during the postharvest or ripening stages is responsible for major economic losses. Although there are fewer reports available on the occurrence of anthracnose disease in minor fruits, Management of anthracnose disease requires an integrated approach using cultural, biological, and chemical methods. This article outlines the status of anthracnose disease, focusing on the symptoms, causal agent, disease cycle, and management strategies in minor fruits.
