·         World Fisheries Day was celebrated on 21 November by Department of Fisheries: The Department of Fisheries in the Ministry of Fisheries, Animal Husbandry and Dairying celebrated World Fisheries Day on 21 November at NASC Complex in New Delhi for which the Minister of State for Fisheries, Animal Husbandry and Dairying, Shri Pratap Chandra Sarangi was the chief guest. During the event, for the first time in fisheries sector the GoI awarded best performing States for 2019-20 namely, Odisha (amongst Marine states), Uttar Pradesh (amongst Inland states) and Assam (amongst Hilly and NE states). The Govt. of India also awarded best organisations for 2019-20 viz. Tamil Nadu Fisheries Development Corporation Ltd. (for Marine); Telangana State Fishermen Cooperative societies Federation Ltd (for Inland), and Assam Apex Cooperative Fish Marketing and Processing Federation Ltd. (for Hilly region)]; Krishna District, Andhra Pradesh as best Marine District; Kalahandi, Odisha as best Inland District; Nagaon, Assam as Best Hilly and NE District.

·         Nainital gets India’s first ever Moss garden: India’s first moss garden inaugurated by water man of India-Rajendra Singh, Ramon Magsaysay awardee and well-known water conservation activist in Kumaon’s Nainital   district, which is spread across an area of around 10 ha developed by the research wing of the Uttarakhand forest department. The project was approved in July 2019 under the CAMPA (State Compensatory Afforestation Fund Management and Planning Authority) scheme by the Research Advisory Committee of Uttarakhand Forest Department. This garden is home to around 30 different species of moss, other bryophyte species and main attraction is an additional moss trail of 1.2 km with the primary aim of conserving various species of moss and other bryophytes, and spread awareness among people about its significance in the environment, apart from creating a recreation spot for tourists.

·         Centre identified 15 states for Fortification of Rice and its distribution through PDS : Department of Food & Public Distribution (DFPD) has identified 15 states for implementing Centrally Sponsored Pilot Scheme on Fortification of Rice & its distribution through Public Distribution System for a period of three years beginning from 2019-2020 with a total budget outlay of Rs.174.6 Crore to enhance the nutritional security.  Fifteen state governments have identified their respective districts (1 district per state) for implementing the Pilot Scheme. Already 5 states of Andhra Pradesh, Gujarat, Maharashtra, Tamil Nadu and Chhattisgarh have started the distribution of fortified rice in their respective identified districts. This scheme gives special focus on supplying fortified rice to the 112 specially identified Aspirational Districts of the country. The fortified rice will contain Vitamin A, Vitamin B1, Vitamin B12, Folic Acid, Iron, and Zinc.
